Frequently asked questions

Everything patients ask us, answered straight.

If your question isn't here, ask it on WhatsApp — a coordinator answers, not a bot.

Safety & quality
Is it actually safe to get medical care in China?
Major Chinese hospitals treating international patients operate dedicated international departments with independent scheduling; many partner facilities hold JCI or equivalent accreditation, and all our hospital partners are Grade IIIA tertiary or internationally accredited centers. We only work with hospitals that pass our five-check vetting — and we share that documentation with you during case review.
Will the doctors speak English?
Many senior physicians at international departments do — but you never depend on it. A certified medical interpreter is in the room at every consultation, procedure briefing, and discharge, and all records are translated.
What happens if there's a complication?
Clinical complications are handled by the treating hospital's physicians under their emergency procedures — the same as any hospital anywhere. Around that, your coordinator runs our written escalation protocol (24/7 line → clinical network lead → hospital international office), keeps your family informed, and documents everything for your records at home.
Money
How do you make money — do hospitals pay you for referrals?
No. You pay us a flat, disclosed coordination fee. Hospital fees go to the hospital directly — never through us. We take no per-patient referral commissions; our structure is designed around U.S. compliance standards, and it also means we have zero incentive to steer you toward pricier care.
Can my insurance or HSA cover any of this?
Most U.S. plans don't cover elective care abroad, but HSA/FSA funds often apply to qualified medical expenses, and some plans reimburse specific services. We provide itemized, translated, claim-ready receipts so you can pursue whatever your plan allows. We can't guarantee reimbursement — no honest facilitator can.
What if I cancel?
Before matching begins: full coordination refund. After your plan is delivered: planning fee retained, unused travel refunded per provider policy, hospital deposits per the hospital's written policy — which you see before paying anything. The full schedule is on our Pricing page.
Logistics
Do I need a special visa?
Many patients qualify for visa-free transit windows (up to 240 hours) depending on nationality and itinerary; longer treatments use a standard or medical (S-type) visa. Your coordinator assesses this in your case review and prepares the paperwork, including hospital invitation letters.
Can someone travel with me?
Yes — most patients bring a spouse or family member. Our companion service covers their lodging, meals guidance, and city orientation, and your interpreter helps them stay informed at the hospital.
How far in advance do I need to plan?
Screening and dental trips can often be scheduled within 2–3 weeks. Elective surgery typically runs 4–8 weeks including records review and visa. Complex oncology cases vary — your coordinator gives you a realistic timeline in the fit assessment.
Care
Can I talk to the specialist before I decide to travel?
Yes — that's exactly what our Remote Second Opinion is for: a senior specialist reviews your records and imaging and answers your questions in a written report, translated and debriefed with your coordinator. Many patients start there and only book travel after.
Will my home doctor be able to continue my care?
Yes — that's built in. You leave with complete bilingual medical records, DICOM imaging files, and a written follow-up plan prepared for your home physician, plus scheduled check-ins from us at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months.
What treatments do you not coordinate?
We don't coordinate organ transplantation, assisted reproduction, prenatal diagnostics, or experimental therapies restricted under Chinese health regulations — and we'll say so directly if your inquiry touches these areas.
